David's Big Hike ...

Here's an amazing effort towards the Moving Home appeal by one of our volunteers: David Egan.

David is going to walk from Land's End to John O'Groats, all for us!

Here's his own description, in his own words:
From mid-July to mid-September, I'm going to try to walk from Land's End in the southwest of Britain to John o' Groats in the northeast. In the process, I'd like your help to raise money for The Gatehouse, an Oxford-based organization that I've worked with over the last year-and-a-bit. My aim is to raise 1% of the total they need to move into their new premises.
He's already raised 26% of his fundraising goal. Can you help him? Just click here to access his fundraising page and donate!

Thanks!

A reminder about the Gatehouse Art Exhibition this weekend!

From Setareh Campbell, one of our Art Workers at the centre.

The Gatehouse is holding an Art and Cake Sale.

1 pm – 5 pm, Saturday 16th July
St Giles church, Woodstock Road

Have your cake and eat it, while you look at some great pictures in Oxford's beautiful and historic St Giles Church (for directions to the church, click here).

Keep your eyes on the blog next week for a full report and photos!

Thank-you Eynsham!

Thank you to everyone at St Peter's church in Eynsham who worked so hard in June to support the Gatehouse. The parish BBQ raised £579 for our appeal. A further £486 has been donated by taking up a collection and from holding a coffee morning.

Check out the latest figures on Sandwich Steve.

Their next plan is to organise the Great Gatehouse Sponsored Walk ... more details to follow.

Here we are at the Parish BBQ,
enjoying the lovely summer weather

Article from the Oxford Mail

Morning all - hope you have a great week ahead of you.

Just a quick post for now: here's a great article from the Oxford Mail. Do take a quick look, as it provides a great summary of where we've got to with the Moving Home appeal.

And what great story of one of our guests who donated £1 to the appeal; Andrew Smith, Project Director, writes: "It was a woman we know very well and she said, ‘I haven’t much, but have this towards the appeal’ ... We were very much affected by that."

Members of the Gatehouse Art Group are  doing their bit,
with an exhibition of works of 15 artists currently on display
at St Giles Church, from midday to 2pm on weekdays.

Can you help us cook up our fundraising target?

Can you imagine having a handful of friends round to dinner and supporting the Moving Home appeal at the same time? Well, now you can ....

Here are four easy steps to follow:
  1. Decide on a date on which you'd like to hold your dinner party.

  2. Click here to set up a personalised site (takes about 5 minutes) and then email invitations will be automatically sent from there. Your guests  accept and donate online: it reduces the awkwardness of asking for money and no there's no hassle with collecting cash. The site takes care of everything, including the Gift Aid application - so all you have to do is eat, drink and enjoy yourselves.

  3. If you'd like us to supply (if we possibly can) a 'speaker' to come and explain (in no more than 5 minutes) what the Gatehouse is, then let us know.

  4. Hold the dinner party at your house - and have fun!
And that's it! You get to hold a dinner party, and you get to do something great for the Gatehouse, helping us raise much needed funds to support this work.

So remember, just click here to get started. Thanks: and let us know if you have any further queries.

Thank you to the Walkers

In an earlier post we described how the Cambridge University Rambling Club was planning to walk in support of the Gatehouse Moving Home appeal.

Well, last weekend, the walk took place and was completed successfully - 80 miles / 129 km between Oxford and Cambridge, finished in under 48 hours, without any sleep!

And the great news is they exceeded their own fundraising target - over £700 raised for the  Moving Home appeal so far! So a big thank you from all of us!

It's not too late to give: just visit their sponsorship page here

And if you want to see photos from the walk, visit their excellent gallery page here.

Thank you to all who took part, including: Simon Cottrell, Bernhard Elsner, Marc Fiedler, Matthew Ford, Valérie Malard, Yifan Huang, Patricia Hutchinson, Alan Iwi, Olaf Kähler, Usha Kanagaratnam, Etienne von Lavante, Ernest Li, Kevin Meng, Chris O'Neill, Jaimini Patel, Steven Smith, Nigel Taylor, David Waszek, Min Wu, Dylan the Sheep and Geraldine the Penguin!

And finally, here are a couple of great stories from the event:

1. Here's a photo of Steven Smith -> not his usual attire! but because the team had already reached their target of £500, he agreed to lead the whole walk in a ballgown. Nice!

2. One of the walkers, Alan Iwi, was actually a volunteer at the Gatehouse back in 2000. He was only going to join them as far as Aylesbury, but ended up accompanying them the whole way. Thanks Alan!
